You're right about the lighting. Season 1 had a different Director of Photography than seasons 2-4, which is why season 1 feels so different. It's dark and moody. They also had a different costume designer.Cole was very smart which was half of his power imo. It's not just the opening song either. Several in-episode songs have been changed too. One such example is Unbelievable in Coyote Piper. This is honestly why I don't rewatch more because streaming is so much more convenient than pulling out DVDs every four episodes, but the music was such a big part of the show and I can't stand the changes..
